Why tarmac still works
Tarmac is the all-rounder. It is strong, flexible enough to cope with ground movement, weather-resistant year-round, and gives you a clean uniform surface that is genuinely low-maintenance. For longer driveways, shared accesses or commercial yards in particular, it is hard to beat on cost per square metre.
- Durable under traffic: happy with cars, vans and the occasional delivery lorry.
- Flexible: copes with ground movement better than rigid surfaces.
- Weed-resistant and easy to clean: the unbroken surface gives weeds nowhere to take hold.
- Suitable for steep or sloped sites: better grip than smoother finishes.
- Fast to install: typically the quickest of our surfaces from start to finish.
How we install it
- Free site visit: measure up, check the drainage and existing surface, written quote.
- Strip and prepare: break out the old surface, install edge kerbs or restraints.
- Sub-base: compacted MOT type 1 to the right depth for your loadings.
- Binder course: 60mm base layer of coarser tarmac, rolled flat.
- Surface course: 25-30mm finer wearing course rolled in for the finished look.
Got questions?
Frequently asked questions
Are you fully insured?
Yes, every Prestige Pave & Resin job is covered by full public liability insurance. We will happily share our certificate with you before any work starts.
Do you offer a guarantee on your work?
Yes. Every driveway, patio and resin installation comes with a written workmanship guarantee, plus the manufacturer warranty on materials such as resin and blocks.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
For most driveway and resin projects we ask for a small deposit to secure your installation slot and order materials. The balance is only paid once you are happy with the finished surface.
Will you take away the spoil and rubbish?
Yes, we clear up after ourselves on every job. Any old driveway material, excavation spoil and waste is removed and disposed of responsibly, leaving your property neat and tidy.
How long does a new driveway take to install?
Most domestic driveways take between three and seven working days, depending on the size, surface type and amount of groundwork involved. We will give you a clear timeline as part of your written quote.
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Most replacement driveways do not need planning permission if you use a permeable surface like resin bound, or include drainage to a soakaway. We can advise on the right approach for your property during the site visit.
What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?
Resin bound is a smooth, permeable, mixed-aggregate surface that lets water through. Resin bonded uses scattered chippings on a sealed base and is non-permeable. Resin bound is the more popular finish for modern driveways.
Is resin slippery when wet?
No. A properly installed resin bound driveway has natural grip from the aggregate, and we can specify anti-slip aggregates for sloped driveways or higher-grip finishes if needed.
